Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

New clients often have questions about the  services we provide at Healthy Smiles Hygiene, so we’ve compiled some FAQs to help. If you have any other questions, please give us a call.

Can Healthy Smiles fix cavities?

Healthy Smiles uses Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF), an FDA-approved topical solution that treats and prevents dental cavities and reduces tooth sensitivity in a painless, non-invasive way. SDF has widely been shown to be effective to help stop cavity development after a cavity has formed and kill the bacteria that break down tooth surfaces while also keeping them from spreading to other teeth.

Don’t I need to see a Dentist?

For many people, preventing oral health care problems is their main focus. At your Dental Hygiene appointment, an assessment of the teeth, gums and all the tissues in the mouth will be done. If concerns are observed, they will be discussed. Depending on the concern, you will be referred to either a general dentist, or a dental specialist. It is recommended that a regular dentist exam occur once a year. If you can’t get an appointment with your current dentist, you can book a visit with me and still see your dentist for any dental needs.

What type of services are offered at Healthy Smiles Hygiene?

Routine teeth cleaning as well as deep cleanings/periodontal therapy, comprehensive examinations, x-rays, sealants, teeth whitening, cavity treatment fluoride and Nite Bite (night guard).

What is an Independent Dental Hygienist Practice?

A licensed Dental Hygienist practices independent of a dentist/dental office. I own and operate my own dental hygiene office and refer patients to a general dentist or specialist as needed. I am an experienced preventative oral health care professionals who offers oral health services in a unique, relaxed, no pressure setting with patient centered care. Seeing the same hygienist regularly gives me the opportunity to get to know your mouth and know what areas need special attention. There isn’t a time crunch, so more time can be scheduled with patients that need it without the increase of cost. My patients enjoy and appreciate the attention to detail in patient comfort and thorough cleanings without the noise of a drill.

How long does an appointment take?

A regular routine cleaning lasts between one hour to an hour and a half. Teeth whitening treatments take thirty minutes total.

Does Healthy Smiles do teeth whitening treatments, if so, what is the process?

Healthy Smiles is partnered with Sinsational Smile a green certified in-office teeth whitening system. Sinsational Smile uses a patented pre-filled silicone tray, which conforms to the shape of your mouth. This allows the jaw to remain relaxed and the patient comfortable throughout the 20-minute treatment. We use an LED accelerating light that activates the gel’s whitening ingredients at a faster rate, resulting in a brighter smile and immediate 2-5 shade change. As part of your procedure, you will also receive a take-home maintenance pen. For the best results, the Sinsational Smile teeth whitening method is best done after a cleaning and can be done every 6 months.
